AKC Rally Classes
Started in 2005, AKC Rally is a fun dog performance sport for all ages. Both purebred and mixed breed dogs may compete. Handler and dog move together through a course demonstrating a variety of skills which are indicated on the course signs. Teams are judged on the accuracy and energy demonstrated while performing each sign. Rally is a logical beginning point for developing many skills used in a variety of AKC Performance Sports. In addition it is a also an ideal sport for older dogs who are retiring from more physically demanding sports.
AKC Obedience
Obedience, developed in the 1930's, is open to both purebred and mixed breed dogs. Handler and dog may progress from Novice level training which involves skills primarily demonstrated on leash (i.e. heeling, automatic sit, down) to Utility level which is performed off-leash and involves skills such as directed heeling, stays, recalls and demonstrating teamwork.
NOTE: Even if you have no desire to compete with your canine companion please consider some form of obedience training to develop a good relationship with your dog.
